Bailey Fights Back From Adversity and Gives His DMS Toyota Camry a Strong Run
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 6, 2008) – Jack Bailey knows his opportunities for developing his driving career are thus far, limited in 2008. Therefore, a good run at “The Rock” was in order. With a selected few sponsored ARCA RE/MAX Series races currently on tap for Bailey in the D’Hondt Motorsports # 19 Toyota Camry, a strong performance at Andy Hillenburg’s Rockingham Speedway was what the doctor ordered.
Bailey and the Jerry Pitts led DMS crew came out firing with a 5th place qualifying effort.
“Being an impound event with limited adjustments post qualifying, we tuned our car up for long race runs, so to come out of qualifying with a 5th place starting position was pleasing,” said Jerry Pitts, crew chief. At the start of the “Carolina 500” Bailey quickly made it known that he had a strong race car moving past both the Bill Davis Racing entry of Michael Annett and the Roush Racing entry of Ricky Stenhouse, into third place. On lap 12 disaster struck when a slow car spun coming off turn 2 creating a log jam down the back stretch resulting in heavy right side damage to the # 19 Camry. “Once the # 2 car slammed into our right side, we suffered extensive damage including our exhaust system, right front suspension and more, said Pitts”
To their credit, the DMS crew worked feverishly to repair the car and got Bailey back into the competition never giving up and showing a great deal of character. “We came out of our repairs multi-laps down, but I am proud of our guys and Jack. What we did on the track thereafter with a car as banged up as it was, made me smile. This kid can drive,” said team owner Eddie D’Hondt
After multiple trips under caution to pit road for repairs Bailey got in a groove with his battered machine and past every car on the track with the exception of eventual race winner Joey Logano. “I had a very strong race car that even beat up, handled like a dream. I know Joey had the dominant car today, but I look forward to a chance at running this car again. I couldn't have asked for a better car and engine combination,” said Bailey.
The DMS team looks toward the June 7th ARCA RE/MAX Pocono event and is seeking sponsorship opportunities for this event. For more information contact DMS @ (704) 252-1240 or (704) 660-8800.
